himself in various guises, roles and exploits far removed from his humdrum existence.
A successful film based on the story helped to propel the name of the central character into more general use.

《华尔脱·密蒂的隐秘生活》 是由美国幽默作家詹姆斯·瑟伯（James Thurber，1894～1961）写的一部小说，最先于1932年发表在《纽约人》上。它讲述的是一个温顺的丈夫，即Mitty的幻想生活。他想象自己以不同的身份和角色展开了一系列英勇行为，这些与单调乏味的现实生活完全不同。

而根据这部小说拍摄的电影则使得这个名字更加为人所知。
