Dear Bridget,
Thank you for guiding me to familiar the questions which consulate would mention. The website hasn’t supported me to listen to the tape of today’s class yet, but I can see your comment. You are so attentive and patient.
To review today’s class, I am trying to remind of the answers you taught me without record.
I am offered a residency for Shanghai author in Cork for two months.
I will be in Cork for two months.
As Cork and Shanghai are sister cities, I think my offer is one part of the contents about Literature and art interchange to enhance the fellowship with two cities. I will make efforts to do my obligation.
I’ll be attending two meetings at literature center in Cork in the middle of October maybe, giving speeches in the meetings, noting the information, studying and writing reports, also, if time will be enough, creating some works about Ireland.
For me (in myself), I am really excited to exchange the opinions with the authors and the poets in Ireland, and learn more from the Irish literature and culture when I am live in Cork. I think it will be of great help to me on my way exploring in literature in the future.
Following is my recognition about Irish culture.
There were a large amount of great writers in Irish literary history who I like for many years, such as W. B. Yeats, amazing poet and playwright (dramatist), I love The Celtic Twilight most.
I believe in real wisdom and eternal elegancy in the myth and legend, which belong to the civilization of ancient times, when people had good relationship with their souls and the generous nature instead of caring about the material world.
Therefore I am interested in anthropology and I also fond of collecting myths, legends and epics of different nationalities in the remote area of China, such as the Mongolia, Tibetan and Na xi. In 2008, I finished a novel named The Ends of the world, and also named Death of the Last Arcadian Village, which saluted to Yeats.
I also like James Joyce. I have read his Ulises and Dubliners in Chinese version ( not edition?) before. Lately I am reading Dubliners in original edition again.
And Oscar Wilder, his fairy tales accompanied me in my childhood, and his drama were my best friends in my youth.
Thank you.
Yours Sandy
