  • Cut-throat means very critical, crucial. i.e. We just hired a new CEO who has a very brilliant record in order to get more interest in this cut-throat market. Diamond in the rough means a person who has high potential without enough training or education. i.e. Don’t look down upon the fresh graduate, because each of them probably is a diamond in the rough. From the ground up means from the beginning, initial. i.e. Steve started the business from the ground up in the garage, but now apple is one of the biggest company of the world.

  • Firstly, I didn't prepared very well for today's course, I missed some details of the textbook, for example, how to pronounce the persons' name and the company names. Secondly, I need to prepare some daily conversations, like how to talk about weather or how to speak on telephone.
