In my hometown Kunshan, there is a small mountain named Ma’an Shan. And at the foot of it lies Tinglin Park. When I was still a preschool kid, I lived in a neighborhood next to the beautiful Park. My grandmother used to take me to the park, where I enjoyed scooping goldfish, shooting water guns, digging sand, and often taking a sightseeing car ride. Every time I passed a large lawn behind the entrance, I saw a giant stone in the shape of an old man with long beard standing there. I always felt like the old man who held a book in his hand was staring at me. There were also several large characters carved on the stone behind him. At that time, I didn't know who this person was, let alone know the words. My carefree childhood memory was all about Tinglin Park. In elementary school, I learnt pinyin and strokes. My teacher also taught us how to read the words and told many stories of celebrities. When I went to Tinglin Park to see this stone grandfather, I knew that he was Mr. Gu Yanwu, and the characters were his famous saying, “Everyone should be concerned about the rise and fall of the world”. Gu Yanwu, born in Kunshan Qiandeng, was respected as Mr. Tinglin. In honor of the great thinker, in 1936, Kunshan Ma’anshan Park was renamed as “Tinglin Park”. It turned out that my childhood was spent under the under Mr. Tinglin’s gaze. When I went to school, I had to go along the road connecting the Tinglin Park and Yushan Square. It is called “Tinglin Road”. Almost every city has Zhongshan Road, Jiefang Road and Changjiang Road, but I have not seen “Tinglin Road” in any other city. For this reason, I feel particularly proud. Tinglin Road accompanied my elementary school for six years. I often thought of the book in Mr. Tinglin’s hand and I guessed he must be watching me reading. Now I am a high school student in Kunshan Senior High School. I hardly have time to go to Tinglin Park, and nor do I walk past Tinglin Road. However, I have more chances to see the famous saying quoted and hear Mr. Tinglin mentioned in the media. In the patriotism education activities carried out by our school, I know that “Everyone should be concerned about the rise and fall of the world”. The Chinese dream is everyone’s dream. We must spare no efforts to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
